SANTA TERESA

One of the most picturesque scenery of Rio de Janeiro, Santa Teresa is atop a hill cut by the rails of the electric cable car, which now circulates a short distance between the Carioca dos Bondes station (starting point in downtown) and Largo dos Guimarães . Filled with squares and cultural spaces that reveal landscapes of the North, South and Center, 'Santa' is taken over by houses that house workshops, craft shops, bars and restaurants. One of the most important buildings is the Santa Teresa Convent, erected in the 19th century and named after the neighborhood. Those who choose to get there on foot, departing from Lapa, will have the opportunity to visit the most famous staircase in the city - Selarón, with 215 steps covered with ceramic mosaics in green, yellow and blue. The ladder was named after the Chilean artist who signed the work.
