In 1922, it was the scene of the military episode known as Os 18 do Forte, in which a group of soldiers rebelled, unsuccessfully, against troops loyal to Epitacio Pessoa. Today it houses the Army Historical Museum.

The Copacabana Fort is located on a rocky point in the sea. With a privileged landscape that covers the beach of Arpoador on one side, and on the other, the entire curve of the beach from Copacabana to the Leme. At the same time, it is in the middle of one of the most populous districts of the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Occupying a total area of 114,169m2, the Forte de Copacabana was inaugurated in 1914, considered "the most modern South American War Plaza". It was also the last fortification built in Brazil, but it did not fail to participate in important moments of the History in the Republic, such as the remarkable 1922 movement of the "Eighteen of the Fort."
