CARNIVAL
The carnival of Rio de Janeiro is the most famous in Brazil and the best known internationally. A great party, involving revelers from all backgrounds, taking part in the most diverse manifestations, with parades of samba schools in the sambódromo, street carnival with bands and carnival blocks, and in the various dances that extend throughout the city.
The Biggest Party in the World: Carnival in Rio de Janeiro and Brazil begins just before Lent and has long been considered the biggest party in the world. Officially the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro lasts 5 days, from Friday until Tuesday, preceding Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of Lent. The party usually takes place in February or March.
Throughout the year schools prepare for the annual parade which is also a competition. This fantastic moment takes place in the Sambódromo, designed by Oscar Niemeyer and completed in 1984.
