SUGAR LOAF

Every year, approximately 1.5 million visitors of the world pass through the stations of the Bondinho do Pão de Açúcar, in the neighborhood of Urca, to one of the most visited postcards of the country and the world. The first stretch, which leads to Morro da Urca, is covered in just over three minutes and includes breathtaking views of Praia Vermelha and the Leme and Copacabana coves on the right side, and the Botafogo Cove with the Christ in the background, left.

In the first landing, the visitor arrives at the Praça dos Bondes, where exhibitions of previous generations, from 1912 and 1972 are displayed, as well as two bronze sculptures, in real size, of those responsible for the idealization and implantation of each of them, Augusto Ferreira Ramos and the engineer Cristóvão Leite de Castro.

At 396 meters above sea level, on the second landing, the Bondinho offers an even more breathtaking 360 ° view of Rio de Janeiro. Besides the border of the South Zone, it is possible to contemplate the Pedra da Gávea, the Tijuca Massif and the Corcovado with the image of Christ the Redeemer, the Guanabara Bay and the Botafogo Bay, Downtown, Santos Dumont Airport, Ilha do Governador, Niterói and, in the background the Serra do Mar, with the peak of the Dedo de Deus.
